CELAYA, Mexico – Industrias Bachoco S.A.B. de C.V. does not expect a recent recall of breaded chicken products to impact the company’s financial results, the company said in a statement.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-based OK Foods, a unit of Bachoco, recalled approximately 933,272 lbs. of ready-to-eat breaded chicken products following consumer complaints of metal objects in the products. Bachoco said most of the affected products remained in the company’s inventory control, and there were no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the recalled products.
“The company has identified and isolated the problem to one production line in its recently acquired Oklahoma City plant, and it has taken immediate actions to eliminate the problem through increased quality control measures,” Bachoco said. “Even though the company expects no material effect on its financial results, it will work intensively to keep the confidence of its customers of product produced in this facility.
“We are confident that our OK Foods team is effectively managing the issue as they continue working with USDA officials to resolve the matter.”
The problem was discovered on March 21 after the company received consumer complaints stating metal objects were found in the chicken products. FSIS inspection personnel also discovered the contamination during routine verification activities. An investigation by OK Foods determined that the metal pieces came from conveyor belting.
