TORONTO – The Halal Guys, a Middle Eastern fast-casual concept, plans to open a restaurant in Toronto, the company’s first location in the province of Ontario. The flagship restaurant will be open on May 5.
Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka and Abdelbaset Elsayed, all from Egypt, started the concept in 1999 as a food cart. They launched The Halal Guys after noticing Muslim cab drivers were looking for halal meals to buy in Manhattan. The Halal Guys specializes in chicken, gyro and falafel platters served with white sauce.
“We are extremely excited to be opening in Toronto,” said Imran Momin, co-owner of the Toronto franchise. “The demand for The Halal Guys from people who have experienced our food has been very strong, and we are thrilled to not only be able to serve people who already love our food, but to also introduce our brand to new customers, as well.”
Imran Momin, Alveen Momin and Averroes Momin, also plan to open several more The Halal Guys locations throughout Toronto and neighboring cities in the coming years. The Halal Guys franchise consists of six company owned locations in New York with more than 200 units in development, according to the company.
