CFIA said the items may be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus. 
 

OTTAWA, Ontario – Maple Leaf Foods launched a recall of various breaded chicken products on concerns of Staphylococcus aureus contamination, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported.

The affected items include:

  • 840-g. packages of Maple Leaf Chicken Breast Strips with date 2018-04-20 and UPC 0 63100 03089 6
  • 828-g. packages of Sufra Halal Chicken Burgers with date 2018-01-20 and UPC 0 61483 05778 3
  • 828-g. packages of Mina Halal Chicken Burgers with code 7118 and UPC 0 63100 42143 4

 

CFIA noted there are no reported illnesses associated with consumption of these products. The agency is urging consumers to throw out recalled products or return them to the store where they were purchased.

The toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures, CFIA said. Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases of illness, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur.
