In May, placements in feedlots totaled 2.12 million head, a 12 percent increase over 2016, NASS reported. Net placements were 2.05 million head.
Placements in May of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 lbs. were 400,000 head, 600-699 lbs. were 315,000 head, 700-799 lbs. were 529,000 head, 800-899 lbs. were 550,000 head, 900-999 lbs. were 235,000 head, and 1,000 lbs. and greater were 90,000 head.
Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 1.95 million head, 9 percent above 2016, according to NASS, while other disappearance totaled 70,000 head during May, a 5 percent decline from 2016.
