Most consumers prefer beef hot dogs, according to a survey by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council

WASHINGTON – As meat enthusiasts observe July as National Hot Dog Month, recent research from the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) indicates consumers prefer beef hot dogs over other varieties.

The NHDSC online poll, conducted by Harris, concluded that 61 percent of Americans prefer beef hot dogs. Pork came in second place at 12 percent while turkey was third with 7 percent. Additionally, 38 percent of respondents indicated a preference for hot dogs in natural casings, while 25 percent reported they prefer skinless, and 25 percent had no preference.

“At a time when so many issues divide us, hot dogs stand as a food that unites,” NHDSC President Eric Mittenthal said. “Whether people enjoy them with beef or pork, natural casing or skinless, hot dogs are a food that is truly beloved.”
