Plans include expanding the current harvesting area at the plant as well as adding processing lines and bolstering its supply chain including expansions at the hatchery, feed mill and transportation system required to support the additional capacity. Approximately 300 jobs will be created related to the construction project.
The current plant and supporting facilities were originally built in Obion County by Tyson and operations began there 20 years ago. The plant employs 1,000 workers at the facility where it manufactures partially fried chicken products for foodservice customers. The company also operates facilities in Goodlettsville , Newbern and Shelbyville, Tennessee. The latest investment is an indicator of the increasing demand for poultry in the market, which the company sees continuing into the future.
“Customer and consumer demand for protein, especially chicken, is increasing so we’re investing in projects that build on our strengths, expand our capabilities and increase our capacity,” said Doug Ramsey, group president of poultry at Tyson. “Expansions like this position us to grow and support our customers.”
