Cargill cited increasing demand from medium and large livestock farms and feed millers in the Philippines and Southeast Asian countries as an essential reason to complete the plant.
An opening ceremony was held at the plant, located in First Bulacan Industrial Park in Malolos, Bulacan.
“The Philippines and Southeast Asian countries are seeing increased consumer demand for meat products, especially pork and chicken. This is great news for the growth potential of local livestock farms and feed millers,” said Noel Kim, general manager of Cargill Provimi, Philippines. “At our premix plant, Cargill can now manufacture the animal nutrition products these producers need to sustainably deliver high quality, safe, affordable meat to consumers.”
Local leaders and officials see the Cargill plant as a benefit for the local community and economy.
The City of Malolos is appreciative of Cargill’s presence, a big boost to our cities’ economic and employment opportunities,” Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad said. “We hope to reciprocate by providing all the needed assistance and better business ambience to make Cargill's project a success.”
The premix plant is one of two important plant openings for Cargill in the Philippines this week. Cargill Joy Poultry Meats Production Inc. (C-Joy), a joint venture between Cargill and Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC), the largest Asian foodservice company, opened its new poultry processing plant, in Santo Tomas, Batangas, Philippines on Dec. 5.
With a processing capacity of 45 million chickens per year, the plant is the largest in the Philippines and provides dressed and marinated chicken to meet the increased demand for JFC brands in the country.
