SCHUYLER, Neb. – Cargill’s Schuyler, Nebraska, beef processing is operating normally today following a walkout by first shift workers on May 1.

A Reuters reportstated some first shift workers walked out in protest of pay differentials that were given to workers on the second and third shifts. The walkout disrupted production at the beef complex where nearly 2,200 employees work. Some cattle were diverted to feedlots in the area.

Cargill spokesman Mike Martin said on May 2 that the plant was operating normally.

The 577,000-sq.-ft. slaughter and fabrication facility has the capacity to process 900,000 tons of beef products per year. Items produced at the plant include fresh boxed beef, frozen boxed beef, ground beef, beef trimmings, finely textured beef, red and white offal, fresh [green] hides, by-products for pet foods and rendered by-products.
