WASHINGTON – The Dept. of Defense (DOD) announced two contracts by Tyson Fresh Meats to provide fresh beef and frozen coarse ground beef products to commissaries throughout the country.
The first contract for more than $440 million was signed to supply meat to the Eastern and Central areas of the US. The second contract, valued at more than $268 million, will provide meat to the military in the Pacific and Western regions of the US.
The release from DOD states that the contract is for a two-year period beginning Oct. 21, 2018, through Oct. 17, 2020. Both contracts have three, one-year options to extend. If all three are picked up the contract would end on Oct. 17, 2023.
