NEW YORK – Mayur Gupta has been named chief marketing officer for Freshly, a direct-to-consumer meal delivery company. In his new role, Gupta will oversee all consumer-facing marketing, including driving growth, building the brand and enhancing Freshly’s consumer insights.
Gupta joins Freshly from Spotify, where he was most recently vice president of growth and marketing. Prior to his time at Spotify, he held various leadership roles at Healthgrades, Kimberly-Clark and SapientNitro.
“Freshly is at a pivotal point right now — we’re experiencing huge growth as the market is rapidly shifting from time-consuming meal kits to options that are both easy and healthy for every day,” said Michael Wystrach, CEO and founder of Freshly. “Our fresh-prepared meals are ready to eat in 3 minutes, and that’s what busy health-focused consumers are looking for now. Mayur’s extensive background and data-inspired brand building will help usher Freshly into its next phase as we continue to grow the intersection of food and wellness with a holistic, customer-first approach. Mayur’s proven ability to build and lead large teams while helping shape an industry makes him the perfect addition to our executive team.”
Freshly offers a weekly subscription service that features a rotating menu of 30 prepared meals. Meal offerings, which are all gluten-free, include such options as penne Bolognese, grilled chicken risotto, teriyaki salmon cakes and Moroccan-style chicken tagine. All dishes contain no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, refined sugars, artificial preservatives or hydrogenated oils.
In June 2017, Nestle USA acquired a minority interest in Freshly. Nestle was the lead investor in a $77 million round of funding that helped the company construct a new kitchen and distribution center in Savage, Maryland, in 2018.
