HOUSTON – After announcing the acquisition of the former Kane Beef plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, earlier this month, operations at STX Beef Co. started up on March 25, according to the company.
After submitting the winning bid of $28 million in a bankruptcy auction in February, STX Beef, a subsidiary of JDH Capital LLC, completed the required safety and operational inspections and key company roles were filled. The plant formerly employed approximately 750 workers before Kane Beef filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January.
“This is an exciting day,” said Ryan Connelly, president of STX Beef. “First, we would like to welcome back all the former employees of Kane Beef that have joined the STX Beef team. As soon as we completed the acquisition, getting folks back to work was our top priority,” said Connelly.
The plant operated at 25 percent capacity on its first day as officials ramp up production in the weeks to come.
