SPRINGDALE, Ark. — An Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) spokesperson confirmed that a Dept. of Labor investigation was opened after five Tyson Foods employees were involved in the cleaning agent spill earlier this week at Springdale poultry plant.
OSHA could not provide any more information until the investigation was completed.
According to media reports in Arkansas, one person was discharged already from the hospital. Three more remain in good condition with one more listed in serious condition.
The Springdale Fire Dept. spokesman said that they were called at 8:30 a.m. to the building and that the spill was contained by the time firefighters arrived.
A Tyson Foods spokesman said on June 18 the workers were sent to the hospital for evaluation and are conducting their own investigation.
"We’re thankful for the quick response of Springdale emergency services who helped us address the situation," Tyson said in a statement.
