ACCOMAC, Va. – Local authorities are investigating the cause of a fire outside a Perdue Farms poultry processing plant in Accomac, Virginia on July 17.
Local reports about the fire were conflicting, with one outlet citing an electrical fire and other reported that two tanks containing chemicals caught fire.
“Out of concern for our associates’ safety, we sent them home,” the company said in a statement to MEAT+POULTRY. “There were no reported injuries. The plant is back in operation today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
The company added that the impact to Perdue Farms customers has been extremely minimal.
