NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is serving a new steak option. Carne Asada will roll out nationally on Sept. 19.
Cooked in small batches, Chipotle’s Carne Asada is cut into slices, seasoned with lime and finished with chopped cilantro and a blend of spices that includes cumin and coriander. The premium protein is compliant with a paleo diet and has been officially approved for the Whole30 program, the restaurant chain said.
Carne Asada joins Chipotle’s original steak on menus for a limited time following testing in Cincinnati and Fresno, California, that began in May. Carne Asada is the newest protein addition since the return of chorizo in September 2018.
“Our Carne Asada steak is amazingly tender, hand cut and grilled fresh every day,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer of Chipotle. “It performed incredibly well in the test markets, and we're excited to be introducing this terrific, new steak nationwide for a limited time.”
