SugarCreek, a food and bacon manufacturer, announced on Jan. 16 that it received approval from the city of Dayton, Ohio, to redevelop a former Kroger store into another company warehouse.
The Cincinnati-based company said Dayton’s SugarCreek facility produces only fully cooked bacon. The company started off in 1966 as a manufacturer of raw bacon.
“As a company, we are committed our continued investment in West Dayton,” a SugarCreek representative told MEAT+POULTRY in an email. “We believe in the neighborhood and are happy to be part of its revitalization.”
SugarCreek currently employs about 475 people at one facility in Dayton. Throughout Ohio, the company has 1,350 employees at three manufacturing facilities and three corporate offices. Dayton’s facility opened in 1975, but it was added onto in 2002.
According to a report by the Dayton Daily News, the building stands at 52,000 sq. ft. SugarCreek has started to clean up the property and repair the facility.
