KANSAS CITY, MO. – Restaurants are betting on bigger in their new offerings, from triple chalupas and burgers with four beef patties to burritos and bowls made with more than a pound of ingredients.
Taco Bell’s new Triplelupa combines three mini chalupas and includes double the seasoned beef of a regular chalupa to create “the longest shell in Taco Bell history,” the company said. The offering is also the brand’s first tear-apart menu item. The Triplelupa features a Nacho Cheese chalupa, Cheesy Chipotle chalupa and Chipotle chalupa in one.
“At Taco Bell, we recognize and love the fandom that the chalupa has cultivated over the years, and it’s why we want to bring our fans an all-new flavor and shell experience with the Triplelupa,” said Kristine Futalan, associate manager of research and development at Taco Bell and lead product developer behind the Triplelupa. “The Triplelupa’s nationwide launch gives us the opportunity to celebrate the transformation of this beloved menu item, and we can’t wait for everyone to taste this latest innovation.”
McDonald’s has supersized its Big Mac burger to develop the Double Big Mac. The hefty handheld features four 100% beef patties with Special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions and an extra bun in between.
“The Big Mac is more than a burger – over the past 50 years it has become an international icon and a consistent favorite for our fans,” said Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu innovation at McDonald’s. “From the perfect amount of our legendary Special Sauce, to the crunch of our crisp lettuce and the juiciness of our 100% pure beef patties, customers know and love the unmistakable flavor of the Big Mac. We’re excited to give them new ways to enjoy the burger they love and satisfy fan cravings of all sizes.”
