TORONTO – Subway Canada said the chain is prepared to open as many stores as possible across Canada, and franchisees have a new set of protocols designed to enhance worker and customer safety against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Under new health and safety rules and guidelines, Subway Canada restaurants:
- Introduced enhanced cleaning procedures, especially in high-touch areas such as door handles and credit card terminals.
- Equipped restaurant employees with masks, installed plexiglass shields at registers and implemented social distancing guidelines for guests and employees.
- Issued guidance for conducting wellness checks of employees at the start of each shift.
- Reinforced stringent health and food safety standards, including wearing single-use gloves when preparing food, handwashing several times throughout each shift and individually wrapping and sealing all subs.
Subway Canada also expanded contactless ordering options with the addition of curbside pickup.
Subway also introduced a new Under $5 Menu with a selection of popular items such as the Cold Cut Combo, Meatball Marinara, and Veggie Delite 6-inch sandwich as well as the Egg & Bacon English Muffin all for less than five dollars. The offering is available at participating locations for a limited time, the company said.
“Many things have changed in the past weeks and months, but as we reopen our doors Canadians can rely on their local Subway for quality meals prepared fresh,” said Cristina Wells, country director, Subway Canada. “Subway is committed to ensuring we exceed customer expectations to give them peace of mind during this transition period.”
