BAILEY, NC. – A large fire on July 22 at Custom Quality Packers plant in Bailey, NC, caused significant damage, but no employees were injured.
According to a report by the Wilson Times, firefighters from 11 departments in three counties fought the fire for almost five hours. One hundred live pigs that were in or near the facility were let out of the building during the fire. The newspaper reported one firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
Custom Quality Packers released a statement following the fire.
“We are thankful for the rapid response and professionalism of many first responders,” the company said. “The cause of the fire is undetermined. We have identified and remain focused on immediate solutions for our customers and business partners, whose support at this time has been incredible.”
