SAN FRANCISCO — Eat Just Inc., the company behind the Just Egg line of plant-based egg products, announced it will add 17,000 retail distribution points, a 40% increase, in the United States by the end of September.
Its Just Egg product will be added to 1,900 Walmart stores around the country after strong numbers in test locations. Nine hundred Food Lion stores and 170 Giant stores will also sell the product.
“Bringing JUST Egg to thousands of additional cities and towns across America is a proud moment for our team,” said Josh Tetrick, co-founder and chief executive officer of Eat Just. “Knowing its now available at the grocery store just a few miles from where I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, is particularly exciting for me. Our products are quickly becoming part of the breakfast ritual for families across the country and we look forward to sharing Just Egg with millions more in the months and years ahead.”
More than 1,000 Kroger and Kroger-owned stores will sell the Just Egg product as well.
Just Egg is available in two formats: a pourable liquid that may be used in scrambles, omelets, quiches, stir-fry and baking applications; and a pre-baked, folded patty that is suitable for breakfast sandwiches. According to the company, the key ingredient is a protein derived from mung beans, which use significantly less resources than conventional animal resources.
The company reported case shipments to retail customers in July increased 170% over February and shipments since July are up 330% versus the same time during 2019.
“We are very grateful to all of our customers for their support of both original Just Egg and folded Just Egg,” said Matt Riley, senior vice president for global partnerships at Eat Just. “I’m excited to see how quickly we’ve gained distribution and look forward to continuing to build on this success together.”
Just Egg is currently available nationwide in retailers such as Whole Foods Market, Safeway, Albertsons, Giant, Wegmans, Publix and online via Amazon and Fresh Direct. A growing number of quick-service restaurants and other foodservice outlets have added Just Egg to the menu.
