CHICAGO – Greenleaf SPC, a unit of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., said the company’s Lightlife brand of plant-based proteins has seen significant expansion in Walmart stores.
Lightlife Tempeh is now available in more than 3,500 Walmart locations nationwide — a more than 10-fold growth from its previous 300 stores — bringing the product’s retail distribution to more than 18,500 retail locations in the produce section.
The Lightlife line of tempeh products will feature a full brand refresh highlighted by bright and bold packaging and a more balanced and approachable logo, the company said. Consumers will see the new-look packaging design in the next few weeks.
“Lightlife Tempeh accounted for about 80% of total US tempeh dollar sales so far this year,” said Dan Curtin, president of Greenleaf Foods. “We are excited to grow our partnership with Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, and get tempeh into the hands of all consumers. This is only the beginning as we further grow the plant-based category with our variety of plant-based products.”
The line includes Original Tempeh, Buffalo Tempeh Strips, Smoky Tempeh Strips, Three Grain Tempeh and Flax Tempeh. All are organic, non-GMO, Kosher-certified and offer between 12 and 19 grams of protein per serving. Meijer, Publix, Kroger, Whole Foods and other retailers also carry the product line.
