ST. LOUIS — Post Holdings Inc. is partnering with plant-based meat maker Hungry Planet to expand distribution of the company’s alternative proteins in foodservice and retail outlets. Post also is investing in Hungry Planet to support future growth. Financial terms were not disclosed.
St. Louis-based Hungry Planet produces a range of plant-based alternatives to pork, beef, chicken and crab that offer a similar taste and texture of conventional meat with better nutrition, according to the company. The products are based on soy and wheat protein.
“By delivering on taste, health and variety we have seen tremendous success in foodservice and developed a very loyal following,” said Todd Boyman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Hungry Planet. “This strategic collaboration with Post increases points of distribution and accelerates delivery of our plant-based meats in order to keep up with demand and reach millions more consumers.”
The agreement follows an announcement last spring that Post subsidiary Michael Foods had partnered with Eat Just, Inc. to manufacture and distribute plant-based Just Egg products to foodservice and food ingredient customers.
“Demand for plant-based meats is growing,” said Mark Westphal, president of Michael Foods. “We are excited to announce this partnership with Hungry Planet and to continue to offer more innovative product options to our customers.”
