MONTGOMERY, ALA. – A worker died from injuries sustained during an overnight accident at a Koch Foods poultry processing plant in Montgomery, Ala., according to the company. The incident occurred early on March 9 during the sanitation shift at the plant.
Jim Gilliland, spokesperson for Koch Foods, said the employee that died was Robert Lewis, who had worked at the plant for 19 years.
“Koch Foods can confirm that Robert Lewis was involved in a fatal incident during the third shift on Tuesday morning, at its Montgomery, Alabama production facility,” Gilliland said. “Koch extends its heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of Mr. Lewis.”
Koch Foods said it would provide counseling to any employees and the family of the victim who may have been impacted by his death.
The company said it cooperating with state and federal agencies investigating the accident.
