SUMTER, SC. – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the suspect in a shooting that occurred at the Pilgrim’s Pride plant in Sumter, SC, on April 26.
The suspect, Jeffery Laverne Green Jr., will face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The shooting occurred after a fight started in the parking lot of the Pilgrim’s Pride production facility. One person was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
“Pilgrim’s management immediately contacted the Sumter County Police Department, who responded to the scene and apprehended the shooter,” said a company spokesperson. “Pilgrim’s is fully cooperating with local authorities, and we thank the first responders for their rapid response, which ensured the safety of our team members. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved.”
According to a report published by the Sumter Item, all three people involved in the incident were employees at Pilgrim’s Pride.
