SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WIS. – Johnsonville has developed a strip form of its iconic sausage for foodservice customers that was designed to deliver the appearance and texture of bacon for a variety of applications. The new Johnsonville Sausage Strips are available in Original and Chorizo flavor profiles. They were originally launched for the retail segment in 2020 as a breakfast item.
“Incorporating all of the quality ingredients from our premium line of sausage to this unique bacon-like texture will open up a vast new set of menu possibilities for chefs and restaurant chains,” said Craig Yoder, Johnsonville’s senior product marketing manager.
The fully cooked sausage strips are designed to appeal to foodservice operators seeking unique ingredients for sandwiches, salads, soups and wraps. They offer operators 270 days of shelf life when frozen or seven days after the package is opened. The company said the strips are a leaner option to traditional bacon, containing 40% less fat and 30% less sodium per serving.
