WASHINGTON – The US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) offered up resources to help cattle producers as part of the National Beef Month campaign in May.
AMS said it would host three webinars on the Livestock Mandatory Reporting (LMR) Program which is conducted by the USDA Cattle and Carcass Training Centers. During the series AMS, Colorado State Univ. and several beef industry professionals will introduce LMR reports, explain key components and explore how to use them to facilitate marketing decisions and mitigate risk. Interested parties can register for the webinar here.
“These resources help support the industry’s understanding of the marketplace and the roles that producers, feeders, processors and USDA play in bringing high quality American beef to market,” USDA said.
The agency recently developed a short video on the cattle reports and how data is collected. The USDA also published a Cattle Price Report User’s Guide and a second one for boxed beef reports.
Another tool the USDA is developing includes a new grading dashboard which will provide current and historical quality grade and volume information for beef, lamb and veal.
