WASHINGTON – The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Dept. of Agriculture updated the major recall by Tyson Foods on July 13 to include additional products produced by other establishments and retails.
The agency said some items had different establishment numbers on the label due to further processing and some products may have been served from the deli counter in certain retail locations.
“We encourage consumers to check the FSIS website frequently while we continue to update the press release and/or the labels if we become aware of additional products that used the recalled chicken,” the USDA said in its latest update.
On July 3, Tyson Foods initiated a recall of approximately 8.5 million lbs. of ready-to-eat chicken products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products were manufactured at the company’s Dexter, Mo., plant between Dec. 26, 2020, and April 13, 2021.
Last week the company added nearly another 500,000 lbs. of product to the recall list. That leaves the current total up for recall around 8,955,296 lbs. of frozen and cooked chicken products.
