TORONTO – KFC Canada is returning the Double Down chicken sandwich to menus after a 10-year hiatus as a limited-time offering. The bun-less sandwich features bacon, Canadian Monterey Jack cheese and sauce, all served between two seasoned, hand-breaded, extra crispy chicken fillets.
The Double Down debuted in Canada in 2010 and became the QSR's most talked about and in-demand menu item. The item has delivered strong sales for KFC Canada every time the company offers it. The brand sold more than 350,000 Double Downs in the first 10 days after the product launched. KFC Canada's Double Down was only available for a limited time, but it sold more than 1 million of the sandwiches. The Waffle Double Down joined the Zinger Double Down as a variation on the recipe in 2018.
The Double Down has appeared on KFC menus in Japan, the Philippines, South Africa, Australia and Canada. More than 10 million were sold in the United States in less than a month when it launched in 2010.
“Double Down fans have spoken, and we are more than happy to give the people what they want,” said Katherine Bond-Debicki, chief marketing officer, KFC Canada. “We are thrilled to bring it back for a limited time, giving original fans and newcomers alike a chance to get their hands on this iconic sandwich. The Double Down lives in a category of its own – when your hand-breaded Canadian chicken is this good, there's no need for buns.”
The Double Down disappears Nov. 7.
