WASHINGTON – Chicken salad product produced by R&G Fine Foods Inc., a poultry processor based in Northridge, Calif. was the subject of a public health alert issued on March 10 by the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The health alert was issued over concerns that salad dressing used in the product, which has been recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), could be contaminated with foreign material, specifically hard plastic.
R&G officials were notified of the issue by its FDA-regulated salad dressing supplier and this information was shared with the FSIS. The two agencies are collaborating on the investigation of the matter. The chicken salad products included 12-oz plastic containers containing Trader Joe’s CRUNCHY SLAW with chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing, were shipped to retail customers in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
The products were labeled with use-by dates ranging from March 9, 2022, to March 12, 2022. Establishment number “P-6247 was included inside the USDA mark of inspection on the products’ labels.
There have been no reports of illness or injury related to consumption of the products.
