SMITHFIELD, VA. — Smithfield Foods Inc. announced that it received two accolades from the GLOBEE Business Awards.
The pork producer said it won the Manufacturing Company of the Year for its carbon reduction efforts at the company. It also had a Video of the Year for a documentary produced on the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in American agriculture.
The recognitions came at the American Best in Business Awards program.
“We’re honored that the American Best in Business Awards have recognized our sustainability leadership in food manufacturing and agriculture,” said Stewart Leeth, chief sustainability officer for Smithfield Foods. “Carbon reduction has been a foremost priority of our leading program for more than two decades now, and we are committed to continuing to build upon our aggressive environmental goals for the good of our local communities, planet and industry.”
Smithfield continued to maintain its pledge to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the company’s US supply chain by 30% by 2030.
Last fall, Smithfield highlighted its first family hog farmers to participate in its new contract growing program that is geared toward supporting Black and other minority farmers as it diversifies its hog supply chain. The program is part of $15 million Smithfield committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in food manufacturing, agriculture and education through its Unity & Action program.
