WARREN COUNTY, MO. – American Foods Group (AFG), a foodservice and retail supplier of protein, provided an update to its next beef processing facility.
A recent note on the company website showed that AFG is expected to break ground on its new harvest plant in late summer 2022 with the intent to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
The first plans for the facility were revealed in November 2021 when AFG said it expected to process 2,400 cattle per day.
Projections from the Greater Warren County Economic Development Council (GWCEDC) said the facility would create 1,300 jobs with the potential for a $450 million investment in the region.
The project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
AFG sent a statement about the upcoming groundbreaking to MEAT+POULTRY.
“The state of Missouri and the people of Warren County have been outstanding partners, and we look forward to becoming a member of their community,” said Steve Van Lannen, president and chief operating officer of American Foods Group. “Consumer demand for beef is growing, and we are investing in this project to fill an industry need for additional hook space while meeting the needs of our partners, customers and consumers.”
AFG currently has locations in Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
