WARWICK, ENGLAND — At the Royal Welsh Show, a four-day celebration of Welsh and British agriculture, Pilgrim’s UK officially launched Pilgrim’s UK Lamb Ltd, which will be joining the company’s Fresh business unit. During the event, Pilgrim’s UK Lamb showcased its lamb products and met with industry stakeholders including the National Farmers Union and Hybu Cig Cymru.
The new business creation follows Pilgrim’s acquisition of Randall Parker Foods last year, through which Pilgrim’s gained two facilities and 350 staff members.
Former managing director of Randall Parker Foods (RPF), Jim Gaffney, will be leading Pilgrim’s UK Lamb as managing director.
“It was great to get our first official outing as Pilgrim’s UK Lamb Ltd under our belts to usher in a new era for us all,” said Gaffney. “Customers and suppliers know our reputation is based on being the premier specialist lamb processor in the UK. The Royal Welsh Show was the perfect opportunity to come together with our vital Welsh farmers to show them the exciting opportunities ahead.”
Pilgrim’s UK Fresh managing director Lee Rampling added, “A huge amount of work has gone into integrating the RPF sites into the wider Pilgrim’s UK organization, and it is a testament to the RPF teams’ passion and commitment that has seen the project go so well. The move brings our lamb operations closer together into a single integrated supply chain, which will benefit team members and customers alike, securing jobs, investment and growth for a sustainable future.”
Pilgrim’s UK said its newest business will process Welsh and British lamb products from certified Farm Assured producers.
“We will continue to produce the high-quality lamb we are known for, while leveraging the expertise and passion for food that exists across the Pilgrim’s UK business to help us reach new customers and markets,” Gaffney said. “Thanks to this relationship with Pilgrim’s UK, our reputation in the industry will grow further, and we’re excited to bring our Welsh farmers with us on this journey.”
