KANSAS CITY, MO. — It has been a little over one year since Subway restaurants debuted changes to almost every item on its core menu as part of the “Eat Fresh Refresh” campaign. Since the start of the campaign, Subway has continued to add new options to its menu, focusing on ingredients and fresh options.
New menu offerings at Subway include a variety of both new and familiar ingredients.
In May 2022, Subway “refreshed” one of its fan-favorite items and launched the sweet onion steak teriyaki sandwich.
“The new sweet onion steak teriyaki is the long-awaited sequel our fans have been waiting for, giving them a chance to try a fresh take on one of our most craved flavors,” said Chef Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary and innovation at Subway. “This cult-classic refresh takes the sweet onion flavor our guests love to the next level by pairing it with juicy, succulent, steak on this mouthwatering sandwich.”
The sandwich features steak topped with green peppers, red onions and American cheese, then drizzled with the company’s sweet onion teriyaki sauce, on Italian bread.
Subway Canada expanded its refreshed menu with three new sandwiches, featuring a green goddess sauce line. The yogurt-based sauce is formulated with a blend of parsley, tarragon and chives and a hint of lemon.
The Eat Fresh Refresh is having a positive impact on Subway’s business, with 83% of over 66,000 guests surveyed saying they like the menu updates, according to the company.
“The journey to build a better Subway has begun, and the changes are having a positive impact on restaurant sales,” said John Chidsey, chief executive officer of Subway. “As we continue this journey, our priority is working hand-in-hand with our dedicated network of franchisees to ensure they have the tools and support needed to grow their business and experience a positive return, resulting in franchisees continuing to invest in their business and the brand.”
