MIAMI — Quick-service chicken chain Popeyes, a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International, is introducing the Blackened Chicken Sandwich as its latest menu addition.
The Blackened Chicken Sandwich features a chicken breast marinated for 12 hours and seasoned with a blend of Cajun and Creole spices. The breading-free chicken is served on a buttery brioche bun with classic or spicy mayo and barrel-cured pickles.
Popeyes said its culinary team spent four years to perfect its version of the blackening cooking technique, which is a method originating from Louisiana that creates a browned or blackened crust to seal in seasoning and spices into the meat.
Popeyes’ Chicken Sandwich released in 2019 excited the public to test copycat recipes. With the introduction of the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes is reigniting that energy by “daring” the public to “Copy This,” in its latest campaign.
“Our Chicken Sandwich changed the QSR industry back in 2019, and since then, we’ve continued to innovate within the category to give our guests what they want — even more Chicken Sandwich options,” said Sami Siddiqui, president of Popeyes North America. “After the immense success of the Chicken Sandwich, we wanted to reinvent the category of traditional grilled chicken sandwiches with our all-new take on a non-breaded option, the Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich. We’re excited for guests to try this delicious new offering, and knowing our history for trendsetting, we have a feeling it may spark some copycat Blackened Chicken Sandwiches down the road.”
Popeyes customers can find the Blackened Chicken Sandwich for a limited time at restaurants nationwide, with a suggested retail price of $4.99.
