HUTCHINSON, KAN. – Firefighters from three area fire departments were called to help extinguish a fire on the roof of a Tyson Foods prepared foods plant in South Hutchinson, Kan., at approximately 7 p.m. on Dec. 2.
According to the South Hutchinson Fire Department (SHFD), firefighters worked with maintenance crews at the plant to access the blaze and had to pull back multiple layers of roofing to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.
“We’re investigating a fire that occurred at our Hutchinson, Kansas, facility Friday night,” said a Tyson spokesperson. “The safety of our team members is always our top priority, so we immediately evacuated the facility and there are no injuries. We want to thank the local fire department for their quick response.”
Officials with the company confirmed that the facility was up and running as of Dec. 5.
Fighting the fire was made more difficult by cold winds that gusted up to 51 mph, the SHFD said, and assistance was needed from the Hutchinson Fire Department and two Reno County District fire departments.
