HILLSBORO, TEXAS — Buc-ee’s, a travel center chain known for its clean bathrooms, fresh food and Buc-ee the beaver mascot, announced plans to break ground at its latest location in Hillsboro, Texas, on Jan. 24.
Hillsboro Mayor Andrew Smith, members of the Hillsboro City Council, Hill Country Judge Justin Lewis and the Hill County Commissioners Court will all attend the ceremony, which will be held at 1 p.m. CST.
“Hillsboro is one of the best forks in the road we’ve ever seen, and they have a beautiful, historic courthouse as a bonus,” said Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s director of real estate. “Whether you’re headed to Fort Worth and West Texas or Dallas and East Texas, you can make Buc-ee’s your stop, coming and going. The City of Hillsboro and Hill County have been such great partners, and we look forward to being a great neighbor for years to come.”
The Hillsboro travel center, located at 165 State Highway 77, will span 74,000 square feet, offering 120 fueling stations. Buc-ee’s favorites, which include Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and pastries, will be available for purchase along with thousands of snack, meal and drink options.
Buc-ee’s plans to bring a minimum of 200 jobs to the area. The chain said starting pay begins well above minimum wage, and it will offer full benefits, a 6% matching 401k, and three weeks of paid vacation.
Founded in 1982, Lake Jackson, Texas-based Buc-ee’s currently operates 44 stores across the South. In 2019, the company began a multi-state expansion and has since opened locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. Buc-ee’s added that it has store groundbreakings scheduled in Colorado and Missouri in the near future.
