WASHINGTON — WOW Frozen Food LLC, based in Plantation, Fla., is recalling around 488 lbs of meat and poultry sfihas products produced without the benefit of inspection, said the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on March 17. Sfihas is a dish of flatbread cooked with a minced meat topping.
The following frozen sfihas items, produced on various dates since October 2022, are subject to recall:
- 260-gram pouch bag containing 5 pieces of “WOW SFIHAS CALABRESA Brazilian Kielbasa.”
- 260-gram pouch bag containing 5 pieces of “WOW SFIHAS QUEIJO BACON Cheese with Bacon.”
- 260-gram pouch bag containing 5 pieces of “WOW SFIHAS FRANGO CATUPIRY Cream Cheese Chicken.”
- 260-gram pouch bag containing 5 pieces of “WOW SFIHAS CARNE Beef.”
The products were shipped to retail stores in Florida and sold through Instagram.
FSIS discovered the problem during a routine surveillance activity. The agency found that various frozen sfihas meat and poultry products did not bear the USDA mark of inspection. After further investigation, FSIS determined that the products were not produced at a USDA-inspected establishment.
FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption.
