THORP, WIS. — Small meat processor Nolechek’s Meats announced that it was in the process of selling its operation.
The 71-year-old company plans to cease production on Aug. 31, 2023, and clear inventory through Sept. 30, 2023, or until the product is gone.
Nolechek’s stated in a message on its website that it has experienced unprecedented growth over the last five years, including expanding wholesale and internet sales. However, the family business also said it had to manage difficult changes and decisions.
“Countless events transpired the last three years that have been thrust upon our business and all Americans,” the Nolechek family said in a message. “Events which fundamentally changed not only the way we do business, but the landscape of our entire country. So much of what is transpiring is outside the scope of our direct control – regulatory oversight, lack of leadership and accountability in government, supply chain, labor force – yet, these things impact business in very tangible ways. The last year was particularly eye-opening to what it takes to survive as a small business. It has been insightful, humbling, and revealing to say the least. Through it all our small, but mighty team persevered, pivoted, and adapted.”
Nolecheck’s began in 1952 when Doc Nolechek purchased the Thorp Locker Plant & Soda Fountain. During the seven decades, the meat company was passed down through four generations and served its local Wisconsin community.
“The Nolechek Family understands this news is heavy and that it will affect our beloved customers and fans, spanning four generations,” the message stated. “It has been nothing short of an honor to have worked with the best-of-the-best and share our products with the most amazing people from all over the country. To carry on the tradition of creating relationships and memories through shared food experiences, while staying true to our core values of customer service and attention to detail, has been a blessing. We cannot stress enough how much we appreciate the countless people who have supported us individually and as a business over the years and are thankful for the opportunity to share our passion with individuals of all backgrounds and demographics.”
Nolechek’s assured that it would honor all commitments for retail, online and whole and looked forward to a memorable and successful last chapter of the company.
