CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and other public health officials are investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef.
Currently, the IDPH is working with local health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).
Initial information from the IDPH did not identify a source of the ground beef that led to the outbreak.
So far, 26 cases have been reported in Chicago as well as Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties.
A small number of other cases in other states are also under investigation by the CDC and the state health departments.
