SPRINGDALE, ARK. — As Tyson Foods Inc. celebrated a full year of providing tuition-free education for all US employees, the company announced a new partnership with the University of Arkansas (U of A). The university will offer six new programs for Tyson workers that include degrees and certificates in general business, supply chain management, human resources management and other professional certifications.
“We’re investing in the future of our team members and providing the tools and resources they need to be successful, both personally and professionally,” said Donnie King, president and chief executive officer of Tyson Foods. “Whether they’re learning a new language, earning a college degree or gaining skills to help build their career, this program is helping our team members thrive.”
The company’s partnership with the U of A builds on Tyson’s longstanding effort to equip employees with life skills and an education.
In 2016, Tyson introduced the Upward Academy, originally intended as an on-site adult education program. The program was expanded into an online platform through a partnership with social impact company Guild in April 2022. Tyson team members received access to Guild’s Career Opportunity Platform and Guild coaches.
Over the past year, 67 new learning and education programs were added — including agriculture and sustainability, cybersecurity and data analytics. To date, more than 13,000 Tyson employees have participated in Upward Academy.
Tyson added that 2,800 of its employees have enrolled in programs through over 35 accredited universities, colleges and professional training providers.
“Guild is honored to work alongside Tyson Foods as they invest in learning and career mobility opportunities for their team members,” said Rachel Romer, CEO of Guild. “As we enter the second year of our partnership, we look forward to seeing the continued advancement of team members as they progress on their learning and career journeys.”
