IOWA FALLS, IOWA – Marlin Hoogland, DVM, was recently appointed to chief production officer for Iowa Select Farms and plans to start on Aug. 17.
In the role, Hoogland will lead all production areas including gene transfer centers, multiplication, gilt development, sow production, wean-to-finish operations, research, nutrition, feed services and production well-being.
Before joining the company, Hoogland worked as vice president of research, nutrition and business innovation at Smithfield Foods. Before that role, he worked as a lead veterinarian at Smithfield for more than 12 years overseeing services for the Midwest region.
Hoogland was born and raised on a farrow-to-finish farm near Orange City, Iowa, and has been in the swine industry his entire life.
He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2005 and the University of Illinois’ Executive Veterinary Program in 2009.
Along with Hoogland, Iowa Select hired Terry Tate as senior director of support operations for the company, overseeing transportation, nutrient management, maintenance and repair, safety and human resources starting on Sept. 5.
Tate previously worked as senior vice president and director of operations at Murphy Family Ventures. In that role, he managed the swine operations that included 150,000 sows, 13,000 wean-to-feeder spaces and 175,000 finishing spaces. The area also included 2.7 million spaces for contract broiler operations.
Tate also provides knowledge in land and nutrient management and fleet and facility maintenance divisions.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in animal science and agribusiness from the University of Tennessee.
