SLIDELL, LA. — An ammonia leak reportedly broke out at Thompson Packers on the morning of Aug. 24, according to the Slidell Police Department.
Local authorities worked with Thompson Packers to contain the situation.
The police department issued a shelter in place order for anyone within a one-mile radius of the meat processing facility located on 550 Carnation Street, Slidell, La. The order affected school bus routes, as pickups in the immediate area were not allowed.
By 8:00 a.m. hazmat crews resolved the issue, declaring the area safe and lifting the shelter in place order.
Thompson Packers did not provide a comment at the time of publication.
