GREELEY, COLO. — Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., a subsidiary of JBS S.A., released its 2022 Sustainability Report, which highlighted Initiatives of the company’s global operation.
The report looked at advancements in the area of sustainability in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and Mexico.
The report provided updates about sustainability goals and case studies related to its net-zero greenhouse gas emissions pledge by 2040.
One example the meat company gave was its Moy Park’s Farm of the Future in the United Kingdom, which can reduce scope 1 and scope 2 on-farm emissions by 100%.
“At Pilgrim’s, sustainability is embedded throughout our business and provides the opportunity to leverage our scale, influence and expertise to help agriculture be part of the climate solution as we work to fight climate change,” said Fabio Sandri, chief executive officer of Pilgrim’s. “As a key player in the food system, we are lowering our emissions and supporting producers, suppliers and customers to continue improving their environmental footprint and preserving natural resources as well.”
Pilgrim’s highlighted some achievements in the report, which included:
• Leveraged 100% renewable electricity in Pilgrim’s United Kingdom and Pilgrim’s Food Masters businesses
• Achieved a 20% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emission intensity
• Improved Safety Index by 16.8% in the United States, 15% in Europe and 9.4% in Mexico
• Approved 120+ scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions reduction projects for implementation in PPC facilities
• Enrolled more than 350 employees and/or their children in classes to pursue tuition-free higher education through our Better Futures program in the United States.
“This report allows us to share the progress we’ve made and identifies areas of ongoing opportunity, and we hope it also serves as a way to push forward the food and agriculture industry as a whole,” said Sandri. “As a large company and employer, we recognize that the role we play extends beyond our own walls, and we continue to work on delivering scalable solutions to the sustainability challenges that impact us all.”
