CINCINNATI — Pierre Foods will cease operations at its manufacturing facility in Rome, Ga., in August. The company plans to consolidate production from Rome into its Cincinnati plant as well as other facilities.
“We have undertaken a company-wide review of our capacity and determined that we must consolidate some of our manufacturing assets and align our capacity more closely to our needs,” said Mike Zelkind, senior vice-president of operations. “It’s the right business decision for Pierre, but we regret the job loss for our dedicated Rome employees.”
The company currently employs approximately 350 at the facility.
Pierre Foods is a manufacturer of fully-cooked beef, pork, chicken and turkey products as well as peanut butter and bakery items for a variety of markets, including school, food service, retail and vending.
