WASHINGTON — US House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-Penn.) announced he received a recent cancer diagnosis. Thompson plans to continue in his congressional work.

In a statement released Dec. 5, Thompson said, “While this diagnosis is a surprise, I feel well, and I will continue my work representing the people of Pennsylvania’s 15th District. Anyone who’s worked with me knows I am a person of faith as well as an eternal optimist, both of which will guide me as I undergo treatment.”

Thompson, 64, shared that after a routine physical and subsequent tests, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“I appreciate both prayers and privacy during this time,” he said.

Thompson has served on the House Agriculture Committee for more than a decade and this past year was elected to serve as chairman. Prior to becoming chairman, Thompson served two years as the committee’s ranking member.

Before becoming a representative for the state of Pennsylvania, Thompson spent nearly three decades as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed nursing home administrator.
