ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. — The American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP) recently announced a new four-part webinar series focusing on labeling in the meat and poultry processing industry.

Starting in January, Steph Harmon of Label Compliance Solutions will help processors create the groundwork for labeling and help avoid costly label mistakes and tagged products.

The monthly webinar will cover the basics of what must be included on product labels; filling out a 7236 label approval forms; determining when it is necessary to submit a label to the USDA versus a generic approval of the label; and understanding the various label claims needed.

The first session will be held Jan. 16 and subsequent webinars will be held each month through April.

Harmon has worked in the meat industry for more than 20 years with extensive experience in USDA labeling of retail, foodservice and claims labels (animal raising, nutrition, third-party certifications, etc.). During her career she’s worked with numerous small USDA establishments and independent ranchers to help meet their labeling needs with services including label reviews, label content creation, graphic design, label approvals and label printing.

Harmon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural business and marketing from the University of Wyoming. She lives in western Nebraska, where she and her husband run a herd of commercial cattle.
