RICHMOND, VA. — A new USDA-inspected meat processing facility is coming to Farmville, Va., announced Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin on Dec. 28. The processor 5 Pillar Meats LLC is investing over $1.7 million to build a new multi-species facility.
Providing processing for southside Virgina producers, the new facility will stretch across nearly 3,000 square feet on a 3-acre site located in the Prince Edward County Business Park on Dominion Drive. The plant will focus on beef, lamb and goat.
The company will offer halal meats that will be available for wholesale and retail. A variety of fresh cut meats will also be available through 5 Pillar Meats’ on-site store.
Youngkin said 5 Pillar Meats is expects to create 12 new jobs in the area.
“We are happy to have the opportunity to offer this service to small and large producers alike who have had limited access to USDA inspected processing of their livestock,” said Qadir Abdus-Sabur, chief executive officer of 5 Pillar Meats. “Now, both will be able to market to the public. Families, local restaurants, hotels and others can enjoy locally raised, harvested and processed meat/meat products. We look forward to serving our community.”
