SMITHFIELD, VA. – Smithfield Foods Inc. announced that 33 of its facilities in 18 states were recognized by the American Meat Institute (A.M.I.) with Environmental MAPS Recognition Awards for their longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship through the organization and implementation of Environmental Management Systems (E.M.S.) and/or achievement of I.S.O. 14001 certification.

An A.M.I. awards ceremony was held in Kansas City, Mo. on April 30.

"Environmental stewardship is a top priority for Smithfield Foods, as we strive to be a leader in all areas of corporate social responsibility each and every day," said Dennis Treacy, senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief sustainability officer. "This commitment spans our entire organization and I credit our employees for their hard work in progressing through A.M.I.'s Environmental MAPS program to achieve this recognition," he continued.
