REGINA BEACH, SASKATCHEWAN — Pedigree Poultry Ltd., a Lumsden, Saskatchewan-based company, faces C$46,000 ($34,083) in fines after pleading guilty to violating occupational health and safety regulations.
The company was fined for failing to provide a work environment that ensures the health, safety and welfare of its employees, resulting in a serious worker injury.
The charges stemmed from an onsite incident on July 10, 2021, near Regina Beach, Saskatchewan. At Pedigree Poultry’s plant, a worker’s foot became entangled within a horizontal auger system, leading to a serious injury.
The company pled guilty to the violation on Jan. 2.
As a result of the charges, the Regina Provincial Court imposed a fine of C$32,857.14 ($24344.68), with a surcharge of C$13,142.86 ($9737.87).
