BRYAN, TEXAS – Several fire departments battled a major fire at Feather Crest Farms, a broiler operation outside of Bryan, Texas, on Jan. 29.

Reports from local authorities said it would take days to extinguish the fire fully.

"The fire affected two chicken houses on site, and we are very sad to say one house had chickens in it at the time that have been lost," said Sam Krouse of MPS Egg Farms, which owns Feather Crest Farms in a statement to MEAT+POULTRY. "We are thankful for the swift actions of our entire team and that they are all safe. We also deeply appreciate the first responders who reached the farm quickly and helped to prevent any further damage."

Jason Ware, deputy emergency management coordinator for Brazos County, confirmed during a press conference that two buildings were on fire at the property. However, what started the incident is still unclear.

Ware added that the fire was contained to those two buildings at the facility with no injuries and no deaths.

Approximately 100 firefighters were on the scene on Jan. 29 to deal with the fire, according to Ware. Units in the response included the Brazos County Volunteer Fire Department, the Bryan Fire Department, the College Station Fire Department and multiple surrounding counties.

Since the broiler operation is in a rural area, the responding fire departments have set up a train of water trucks and a water shuttle to maintain the water supply needed to the area.
