WASHINGTON — Broadview, III.-based Vanee Foods announced a recall of 9,564 lbs of chicken flavored base product due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that it shipped beef base products that may be incorrectly labeled as chicken-flavored base.

The product labeled as chicken flavored base may actually contain beef base, which contains soy and wheat, known allergens, that are not declared on the product label.

The product was produced July 26, 2023, and packed inside cases labeled beef base. The following products are subject to recall:

  • 1-lb plastic tubs labeled as “Sysco Classic Chicken Flavored Base” with lot code 02673 and packaged in a case labeled as “Sysco Classic BEEF BASE CF” with lot code 02673 represented on the label.

The product labeled as chicken flavored base and subject to recall does not bear a USDA mark of inspection.

However, the product subject to recall is packed in cases that bear the establishment number “EST. 19339” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These items were shipped to distributors in Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia for further distribution to restaurants.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
